The theory is that we tend to separate related things (science=scientia=separate), thereby depriving ourselves of the opportunity to view phenomena as a whole. For example, we separate the consumption of resources from the environmental damage and wars that are waged to obtain them.
We separate the many consumer goods that are manufactured from the debts that are accumulated in order to produce and purchase these products, and we separate credit from money.
The two notched pieces of wood leaning against the relief panels indicate that this dichotomy is not entirely without tension.
