On March 11, 2011, due to a tsunami, a nuclear accident occurred in four of six nuclear reactors, in Fukushima/Japan, leading to a nuclear meltdown in three reactors. Another reactor building was badly damaged. Large amounts of radioactive material were released, causing contamination of air and soil. Up to this date, the reactors have to be cooled with water, so that radioactivity leaks into the Pacific Ocean. As a result of that, radiation also reaches neighboring countries such as China, Russia and South Korea.

The four destroyed reactor buildings were formerly painted light blue and provided with a simple remembered white decor that allowed associations with blank paper or flying birds. The patterns, which extended over the outer walls of the buildings, were created by Kalden on the basis of newspaper photos. They are understood as a universal and ornamental structure that shows itself in different areas of the Daegu exhibition. By transferring the patterns from the outside to the inside, to walls and clothesa proximity and a distance to the reactor incidentis created at the same time. On the one hand, the structures show free interpretable shapes and on the other hand, they point to a never-ending tragedy.
